Last Night I Dreamt I went to Manderley Again...It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife...I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool...When I shop, the world gets better, and the world is better, but then it's not, and I need to do it again...

Since it's World Book Day, I have chosen to write a post about book themed items instead of doing my usual throwback Thursday post - Ill delay that to tomorrow!

Since books are central to my world, I love all things book related and so thought I would blog about book related items such as; gifts, clothing and decor. Nothing changes with regards to books, they can be enjoyed whenever wherever and can always be relied upon to cheer you up or occupy your time. I read in order to escape and find it incredibly relaxing. I used to be like Matilda and devour books in a matter of hours, these days my reading time is much more restricted but come summer I will be again devouring all of my books and all of my local library books.

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

I was both named after this novel and have thoroughly enjoyed reading it since. I am not named after Rebecca de Winter herself thank goodness - as she seems to be a bit of an evil manipulative woman but rather the literature, which my Mother enjoyed reading. Since my A-Level english literature module involved the assessment of gothic literature, I chose Rebecca and explored du Mauriers presentation of Mrs.Danvers obsession with Rebecca. I also love the period drama of Rebecca in which Emilia Fox stars and this is definitely worth a watch if you aren't much of a reader!
I therefore love anything to do with this novel and have hunted many times to track down a relatively cheap first edition. Since this seems to be virtually non-existent, I have had a look for other 'Rebecca' themed items.

My favourite has to be this picture from Etsy. It is made by Bookishly UK and features a page from the novel overlaid with the quote from the opening of Rebecca in which the nameless heroine - the new Mrs. de Winter states; "Last Night, I Dreamt I went to Manderley Again..."

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, my middle name is Jane after this wonderful author whom my Mother loved. This love has been inherited by myself. I thoroughly enjoy delving into my namesakes world of long skirts, handkerchiefs, dances and ribbons. I really wish that I could live my life like Elizabeth Bennett and hopefully I will meet my Mr Darcy in the future. The story has since inspired the Bollywood/English film, Bride & Prejudice which is most certainly one of my top ten favourite films

This 'Bookish' item inspired by Pride & Prejudice is a beautiful but totally unnecessary and 'un-useful' item which would merely be purchased because of the sentiment and prettiness of it. It is a Rose made out of the pages of Pride & Prejudice and is sold by Not on the Highstreet. I love roses but their short life of beauty makes me unreasonably frustrated. However this rose would both last forever and be a lovely reminder of a great piece of literature.

Maybe someday I will be able to justify and afford to buy a lovely Kate Spade book themed clutch bag like this Jane Austen one. I love Kate Spade items and hope to purchase one or two items on my upcoming trip to the states!

The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald

I studied this book on my A Level English Literature Course. This book features one of my favourite periods; the twenties. A time of flappers, charleston's and the current period in which Downton Abbey is presented. I also love the recent film with the gorgeous Mr DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. My favourite quotes is; "The Best Thing a Girl Can Be, Is a Beautiful Little Fool."

My Love of Gatsby is shared by many since the popularisation of the novel due to the film. I love all the flapper style dresses and twenties fashion that flooded the market around the time of its release. However I also love this Gatsby Jumper, as worn by Emma Watson.

The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella

I LOVE these books. I find such affinity with Becky Bloomwood that I feel like I am practically reading my own diary. Step back Isla Fisher, I am the real Becky Bloomwood so I should have starred in the film.Although I didnt really love the film as much as the novel because it changed the story far too much! I love the series of books although the film didnt truly capture the 'Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic'. I love the more recent books in the series including Mini-Shopaholic and Shopaholic Ties the Knot although for now, my life is far from at that stage so Im lagging a little behind Becky!

Since I am the true Girl in the Green scarf, I feel that every woman needs a green scarf. I have mine - an emerald green one from my Mum and a sea green dip dye one from my friend Pia. Here's a lovely scarf that you could buy that is just like the one in the film of Confessions of a Shopaholic and at 50% off - you have gotta love a good bargain - a Becky Bargain!

Here are some other gorgeous book themed items....

These are the perfect party decorations or would work well as place cards!

What a perfect combination - some good books and some good cakes!

These new versions of old classics are absolutely gorgeous and they would look perfect on my shelves!

Everyone remembers the hungry caterpillar! Why not make Cake-Pops inspired by Him!

The mere name of this fragrance serves as a reminder to the Twilight trilogy, a series of books that practically everyone under the age of 25 have read! Its a lovely fragrance too by Sarah Jessica Parker

I love reading and found this list a brilliant source of inspiration for finding a load of treasured classics but otherwise, head to your treasure trove of a library and make some wonderful new discoveries to get lost in. Unless you are part of the technology age and have a kindle, in which case...you have no excuse, so get downloading!!! Books are such a wonderful thing and we can learn so much from them that it seems silly not to make the most of them!
